Proposed Legislation Would Strip Pensions of Elected Officials Thrown Out of Office
Illinois lawmakers are trying to show they care about cleaning up state government.

A bill, that is not retroactive, would take away pension benefits from elected officials who are impeached and removed from office.

The bill, sponsored by freshman State Representative Keith Farnham (D-Elgin), comes in the wake of former Governor Rod Blagojevich's ouster, as well as a separate bill that would keep the likes of Blagojevich from profiting from a book or movie deal.

Blagojevich awaits indictment for allegedly trying to sell the US Senate seat once occupied by now-President Barack Obama.

HB 377 passed the House, 106-4.
