Moffitt Appointed to JCAR
Knox County's representative at the Illinois Statehouse has some new responsibilities.

House Republican Leader Tom Cross recently appointed State Representative Don Moffitt to serve on the General Assembly's Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) and as Republican Spokesperson of the House Railroad Industry Committee. Along with those duties, the Gilson Republican will serve as Chairman of the House Special Committee on Fire Protection.

Moffitt says he is honored to be named by Cross to serve on JCAR, the first time the Gilson Republican has been a member of the committee.

"This is a committee that really has the responsibility of oversight of implementing legislation of adopting rules that needed to be adopted to make the legislation work in the manner that was intended by the Legislature."

JCAR is comprised of six members each from the House and the Senate, evenly split with Republicans and Democrats. Moffitt says he looks forward to helping restore the state's fiscal health while serving on the oversight committee.

JCAR blocked former governor Rod Blagojevich's attempt in November of 2007 to expand Medicare to nearly 150,000 Illinois residents earning up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level. That comes out to around $83,000 a year for a family of four. Moffitt says that was one of the reasons listed in the articles of impeachment that ultimately led to Blagojevich's ouster from office.

Moffitt says the only way the peoples' voice is heard is if state government has a committee like JCAR.
