Study Could Lead to Another Galesburg Hotel
The Galesburg City Council will consider entering into a study to determine whether a piece of property the city owns can be transformed into what is being called a "boutique hotel."

Aldermen Monday night plan to take up a $16,500 proposal by Chicago-based Applied Real Estate Analysis to conduct a study to see if the former Ferris Moving and Storage building could become such a property.

In a proposal to the City Council, Applied Real Estate Analysis Senior Vice President Robert Miller suspects that if feasible, a boutique hotel would be beneficial given the location of Knox College, Carl Sandburg's birthplace if it were to reopen, and the proposed new National Railroad Hall of Fame.

The firm is expected to visit the site to look at strengths and weaknesses, an employment trend analysis, gather other data, and various trends for visitor traffic, business at existing hotels, and other things.

If successful, city officials say the data could then be used to market the Ferris Moving and Storage site to potential developers.

Aldermen will also consider making a number of equipment purchases for Parks, Public Works, and the Golf divisions, among others, when they convene at 7:30 p-m inside council chambers at City Hall.
