Primary Closer to Returning to March
The Illinois primary could be moved back to its original date. The House passed SB 355 Thursday to move the primary to the third Wednesday in March.

That's almost six weeks later than the February date, which was changed in 2007 to help favorite son Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election. Rep. Elaine Nekrtz (D-Northbrook) sponsored the bill in the House. She says the early date was hard on both voters and candidates.

Voters had to trek through the snow and weather to get to polling places. Candidates with little money had a difficult time reaching voters door to door. Nekritz said candidates had to rely on mail, radio, and television, which are expensive.

The measure now head to the governor's desk to be signed.
