Durbin Says IL Could Get More Medicaid Money
Illinois could see another $600 million in federal funding for Medicaid. The U.S. Senate approved a measure to extend the increased Medicaid funding match rate under the American Workers, State, and Business Relief Act of 2010.

The federal match rate was 50 percent in Illinois, but was raised to 62 percent last year. Unemployment benefits and COBRA insurance assistance is also extended under the measure. When a person loses his or her job, the federal government will pay 65 percent of the cost of health insurance. The COBRA program would be extended through the end of the year.

The bill also extends the biodiesel tax credit, which encourages companies to re-hire laid off workers in the industry. The bill now goes to the U.S. House of Representatives for approval. U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) expects a vote in the House by April.
