Illinois GOP Showing Signs of Unity
Almost six weeks after the primary, the Republican ticket held its unity rally.

With the nomination for governor undecided until 10 days ago because of a close primary, it was hard to get the campaign running. On Sunday, State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington), the Republican nominee for governor, was joined at a campaign rally in Addison by his erstwhile rivals to declare unity and kick off their campaign in the Chicago suburbs.

State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale), the former DuPage County Republican chairman, promised to help Brady in the Chicago area, where he is less well known than he is Downstate.

Brady told the crowd of around 200 that he must appeal to voters outside that room. "It is our time to reach out, to reach beyond traditional Republican boundaries and borders, to reach out to independents and Democrats, to reach out to minorities -- blacks and Latinos -- and share the vision we have for the future of Illinois," he said.

Also appearing at the rally was most of the Republican statewide ticket.
