Lawmaker Who Wants Red Light Cameras Banned Ticketed Due to Red Light Camera
If you're trying repeal the red light camera law in Illinois, you should probably check any video of you driving through a red light.

State Sen. Dan Duffy (R-Lake Barrington) has found that out the hard way. Although he disclosed early on that he'd received a ticket because of a red light camera, he indicated that it should have been dismissed. So Illinois Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) made it public.

At a hearing of the Senate Transportation Committee's Subcommittee on Red Light Cameras, Cullerton repeatedly played the video, which shows two vehicles, one of which is Duffy's, turning right on red without stopping. Cullerton says he hopes Duffy will drop his legislation since, as Cullerton explained, "You ran a red light. That's dangerous."

The subcommittee as well as the full committee voted for Cullerton’s measure to standardize the red light camera process, such as requiring a certain amount of time for a traffic light to remain yellow, or whether motorists can creep into an intersection for better visibility before turning right on red. The bill now goes to the full Senate.
