Republicans Criticize Budget Website
In only a few days, more than 1,800 people commented on the governor's new budget Web site. Republicans, however, feel the suggestions won't be much help.

Gov. Pat Quinn and his staff have just two weeks to sort through all the comments if they intend to apply any to the budget proposal. Quinn will give his budget speech March 10. It was originally scheduled for Feb. 24.

Lawmakers granted Quinn an extension, but Republicans weren't happy about it. Senate Minority Leader Christine Rodogno (R-Lemont) says Quinn is delaying the inevitable. Rodogno says the governor did not offer any of his budget proposals on www.budget.illinois.gov, but she expects him to include a tax hike in his address.

State Sen. Larry K. Bomke (R-Springfield) has viewed the Web site and feels it is too confusing for the public to understand. He doubts any comments will provide actual solutions to the budget problem.
