Report: NIU Gunman May Have Been Angry at School
CHICAGO (AP) -- The chief investigator who helped compile a new report on the gunman who killed five students in a Northern Illinois University classroom in 2008 says he had mixed feelings about its release.

The 322-page report released by NIU Thursday says Steven Kazmierczak may have been at least partly motivated by fury at academic changes he believed the school was making while he studied at the school.

NIU Police Chief Donald Grady previously resisted the release of a detailed report by arguing all the important facts were already known.

In an interview Thursday afternoon with The Associated Press, Grady expressed pride in the new report's thoroughness. But he also feared it gave Kazmierczak some of the notoriety he clearly sought in the mass killing.

He worries copycats could try to achieve notoriety by staging similar attacks.
