GREDA Focusing on Retaining Local Businesses
The Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association is expanding its efforts to make sure local businesses have what they need in order to stay in the area and be successful.

GREDA Vice President Dick Johnson says within the next month, a business retention and expansion push will begin and will be led by Carl Sandburg College Dean of Corporate and Community Services Sherry Foster.

Johnson tells W-G-I-L the effort will start with a survey being sent through the mail to area businesses. "The questionnaire allows them to tell us more about their businesses, more about what their concerns are" Johnson said. "Always high on the list is taxes. Maybe there are things that crop up that GREDA or the chamber of commerce really weren't aware of."

Johnson says the next step will be then visiting in person with those businesses, to determine what it is that they are the most frustrated with, and where they can improve.

He says those meeting with the businesses will be from a committee comprised of GREDA and Galesburg-Area Chamber of Commerce members.
