Duckworth Receives Army "Hall of Fame" Award
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The U.S. Army Women's Foundation has inducted Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs Tammy Duckworth into its Hall of Fame.

Army officials say the award recognizes "exceptional contributions to women in the military."

Duckworth is a former Illinois veteran affairs director. She was a helicopter pilot in Iraq when she lost both her legs and partial use of one arm in a rocket-propelled grenade attack in 2004.

Duckworth lived in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates. She ran for Congress in Illinois in 2006 and lost, but then was appointed to her state post.

She has received many service awards, including a Purple Heart.

Duckworth says she's humbled to receive the distinction. She says she was just a soldier doing her job.
