| Public Meeting on Proposed District 205 Budget Changes Tuesday Night -- PLAN AVAILABLE HERE |
The Galesburg School Board is counting on the public to provide their input on a laundry list of cuts and other changes to the Galesburg School District budget.
The District-205 board is holding a public meeting Tuesday at 7:30pm at Churchill Junior High School -- the sole purpose of which is to take public comments on the proposed $2.5 million in cuts and other moves to balance the district's budget, now that Governor Pat Quinn has proposed, without a sales tax increase, an over $1 billion cut in state education spending.
District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill tells WGIL there have been some changes since the plan was first introduced. "Including the furloughing of administrative staff, and some other like kinds of considerations," Cahill said. "Other than that, it's pretty much the same plan that was first unveiled in February. But there are, in fact, seven new items, reflective of the additional discussions that were had with staff, board members, and students."
Cahill says other than some opening remarks from board president Robert Lindstrom, there will be no presentations or other statements Tuesday night -- just time for the public to give their comments.
He says comments will also be accepted in writing through the end of the week.
The board will vote on the final plan next month.
