Macomb State Police Office Among Those Targeted for Closure
State police will shutter five district offices, according to a plan unveiled Tuesday night at the Capitol.

Illinois State Police acting director Jonathon Monken told Senators in the Senate Appropriations I Committee that because of a $32 million budget cut, he'll have to close the district headquarters. He told a House committee last week that he'd have to layoff 464 troopers, and leave more than 100 trooper positions vacant when officers retire next year.

The breakdown by district, city, and number of troopers to be laid off by district are:

Chicago-Des Plaines, 182
Dist. 14-Macomb, 32
Dist. 16-Pecatonica, 31
Dist. 18-Litchfield, 33
Dist. 19-Carmi, 35

A map of the ISP districts can be found at www.isp.state.il.us/districts/districthome.cfm. The Macomb State Police office covers Warren, McDonough, and Henderson Counties, among others.

Monken says staff will also be cut in the Statewide Terrorism Intelligence Center (STIC), which would lose 14 officers of the current 19. The Meth Response Team would be closed, with 42 officers in that unit laid off, but officers involved in Metropolitan Enforcement Groups (MEGs) would be safe. Troopers in other areas would also face layoff.
