Illinois to Get Money from OSHA
Illinois will be receiving federal dollars to help keep the workplace safe for public employees.

The state has adopted an Occupational Safety and Health Administration State Plan that will bring in $1.5 million in federal matching funds for the state Department of Labor's Safety Inspection and Education Division.

"This new federal funding will allow us to enhance our program to make Illinois public workplaces safer," said Catherine Shannon, director of the Illinois Department of Labor.

OSHA sets safety standards for the private sector and also enforces those standards. Those standards have now officially been adopted by the Safety Inspection and Education Division, even though state Labor Department officials say they have been following those standards for years.

The goal of OSHA and Safety Inspection and Education Division is to make the workplace safer.
