Officials Offer Problem Gambling Awareness Tips
CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois officials are cautioning the state's residents about the dangers of problem gambling.

March is Problem Gambling Awareness month.

State agencies that regulate gaming say while it's fun and exciting to win some extra cash, playing the lottery can become unhealthy.

Some signs that gambling is a problem include: bragging about gambling, exaggerating wins and downplaying losses and borrowing money to gamble.

Jodie Winnett is the acting superintendent of the Illinois Lottery. She says her agency doesn't want Illinoisans to put their families' budgets at risk.

She says groups working to help problem gamblers are Gamblers Anonymous or Gam-Anon.
