Quinn Picks Sheila Simon as Running Mate
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn knows he's facing criticism for not choosing Chicago Rep. Art Turner as his preferred running mate.

Turner, who is black, came in second in the February primary for lieutenant governor. But Quinn said Friday that he wants Sheila Simon, the daughter of the late U.S. Sen. Paul Simon, as running mate.

Quinn responded to black criticism over his pick by saying voters know he's on their side and that Simon's family fought for civil rights.

Turner has said he'll continue fighting for the job.

The Democratic Party State Central Committee has the final say and meets Saturday to make the official pick.

Quinn says he has no guarantee from House Speaker Michael Madigan on Saturday's vote but believes they both agree on Simon.
