Bill Would Help With Education of Homeless
School is mandatory for school-age Illinoisans, whether they have a home or not. A bill that has passed the Illinois House would have the state's school board do a better job of getting money to school districts to serve the homeless.

"For a lot of these kids, stability in school is the only stability they have in their life," said Beth Cunningham, an attorney representing the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. State Rep. Bob Pritchard (R-Hinckley) responded, "You need support services for that child to find some permanent stability. That's not the school district’s responsibility."

Cunningham says actually, it is.

H.B. 4755 passed the Illinois House, 102-0.
