Guard Says Thanks to Illinois Employers
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Walgreen, Boeing and Caterpillar are among 70 Illinois employers nominated for awards for the support they give workers serving in the Guard and Reserve.

The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers.

Only members of the Guard and Reserve or their family members can make nominations. Senior Defense Department officials and business leaders select the award recipients.

Other Illinois employers nominated this year include: Tennant Truck Lines in Orion, Great Clips in Normal, Country Financial in Bloomington and the Village of Ladd.

The police departments of Carterville, Champaign, Joliet, Palatine and Pontiac were nominated, as was the Illinois State Police.
