Illinois Farmers Gear Up for Spring Planting, But Fields Still Wet
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Spring is here and that usually means planting time, but it'll have to wait for some farmers in waterlogged central Illinois.

Mike Hoeft farms in Delavan. He says April 15th is the date he shoots for when it comes to planting. But he says they're not even close this year.

Patrick Kirchhofer of the Peoria County Farm Bureau says most farmers need to prepare their fields before planting. Kirchhofer says the fields are too damp for that right now, and some warm and windy days are needed to dry things out.

The Illinois State Water Survey says Illinois has gotten more than 100 inches of rain in the past two years. That's 22 inches above normal.

The National Weather Service says temperatures will rise this week and winds also are expected to pick up. But the weekend forecast also includes raid.
