| Group Endorses Kirk's Small Business Plan |
A Senate candidate's plan for a bill of rights for small businesses has been endorsed by a group of small business owners.
The National Federation of Independent Business is backing the small business bill of rights proposed by U.S. Rep. Mark S. Kirk ( R-Highland Park ), the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate.
Kirk has been using the plan as one of his campaign platforms.
"Small business remains the engine of our state's economy and I will be a senator who fights for small business," Kirk told a group of small business owners in Chicago . "If you favor jobs growth and support small business employers, you cannot be for higher taxes, increased health care and energy costs and more government red tape. Congress should back our small business bill of rights to create jobs and get Illinois back to work."
Illinois has over 258,000 small business employers that account for 98.4 percent of statewide employers, according to the Small Business Administration.
In a letter to Kirk, the NFIB, the nation's largest small business advocacy organization, thanked him for drafting the legislation saying now more than ever, small businesses need politicians in the nation’s capital to stand up for them.
The Small Business Bill of Rights includes ideas such as exempting small businesses from capital gains tax for 10 years, offering credits for efficient equipment, lowering health care costs and thwarting legislation to make it easier for employees to form a union.
