Galesburg Clinic in Talks to Join OSF Healcare System
POSTED 9:25 a-m, UPDATED 11:32 a-m 3/31/10 Galesburg Clinic is in discussions with the parent company of OSF Saint Mary Medical Center about joining their group.

A joint statement from the two organizations says leadership at Galesburg Clinic informed their employees Wednesday morning that they are talking to representatives from OSF Healthcare, and that confidentiality agreements used to keep negotiations going aren't preventing much more than that from being said.

OSF Healthcare System spokesperson James Farrell tells WGIL from its standpoint, since the clinic is located on the campus of Saint Mary Medical Center, the merger of sorts makes sense.

"The physicians regularly admit their patients for in-patient care," Farrell said, "and also use the diagnostic services right on campus. So, there's been an ongoing working relationship for, probably, 30 years or more."

Galesburg Clinic CEO Mary Michalek tells WGIL for her, the merger might help solve a problem it's had for awhile.

"For the past several years, we've known that there is a physician shortage," Michalek said. "We really have been trying to increase the physician base here in Galesburg. We thought 'well, it would be a good time to talk with OSF about joining us.'"

Both Michalek and Farrell say there will be no changes in care at the Galesburg Clinic, nor will there be changes in the 175 employees.

They say now that a letter of intent has been signed, the deal could be finalized in up to 120 days.
