Local United Way Campaign Close to Goal
The executive director of the Knox County United Way is making a last-minute appeal to residents to give to her agency.

Ann Tucker told the Galesburg City Council Monday night the annual fundraising campaign is close to complete; problem is, she says, it's only at 85% of a $370,000 goal, or, about $315,000.

Tucker calls that a "far cry" from goal, and says every dollar is needed now more than ever because of the current down economy.

"The FISH Food Pantry is having a tough time serving every one that's coming in," Tucker said. "Our partner agencies are also suffering because of the State of Illinois, and the cutbacks that they're receiving. So, we are really trying to do as much as we can to raise as much money as we can, to help these partners of ours out, so that the individuals in the community of Galesburg can continue to thrive and move forward."

Tucker says members of the public don't necessarily have to come up with a large donation. She says $10 a person is really all she needs.

Tucker wants to close the annual fundraising campaign in the middle of this month.
