Brady Tries to Bring Early Release Program Back Up
A Republican gubernatorial candidate is trying to re-hash the "prison early release" scandal. But it's not working very well.

State Senator Bill Brady (R-Bloomington), who could find out Friday if he's the official Republican candidate for governor, announced legislation that would require the Illinois Department of Corrections to post the names and photos of any prisoner released early.

Brady brought up a former prisoner named Jonathan Phillips of Springfield, who served a little more than two years of a six-year sentence, and is now accused of murder. While Brady thinks Phillips may have been released early under the secret program, the corrections agency says Phillips was released because of "time off for good behavior," which is allowed by Illinois law.

Brady then said he wants to abolish any "time off for good behavior," and have prisoners serve sentences strictly according to the Truth In Sentencing Law.
