The first in a series of popular performances at Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre has been known for some time. Now, the theatre's president has officially announced the rest of the series for this year.
Theatre president Kate Francis says following the first "Red Carpet Series" performance of The Spencers "Theatre of Illusion" April 11th, other acts including the rock band "Survivor" in June, the Golden Dragon Chinese Acrobats in July, a performance of the "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" in August, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra in October dot the season that was pared down somewhat this year due to budget restraints.
Francis tells WGIL's "Galesburg Live" while some pretty popular acts being on the schedule this year would be good news enough, even better news is that sponsorships for those shows from the local and area business community have done significantly better than projected.
"We budgeted conservatively for that revenue, and we have surpassed it by 80%," Francis said. "The organizations that are listed as our sponsors, I hope, all of our patrons and our supporters will additionally support those institutions that are so generous to us."
Francis says many theatres book in advance, which can lead to trouble in case the economy is bad. But she says in this case, she doesn't plan that quite far ahead, and she also doesn't want to compete with groups and others who use the theatre.
