Galesburg Police Lieutenant Charged With Theft, Official Misconduct
FIRST REPORTED 12:07 pm, UPDATED 5:46pm 3/5/10 A lieutenant with the Galesburg Police Department is facing a pair of felony charges in a warrant obtained from the Knox County State's Attorney's Office.

Galesburg City Officials say the arrest warrant was issued Friday for Anthony "Tony" Riley, charging him with theft over $300 and official misconduct. Riley turned himself in and was released from the Knox County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Officials say the police department had been investigating Riley, who resigned Thursday. Officials at the Knox County Courthouse, when contacted early Friday afternoon, didn't know when Riley would be in court.

WGIL News was first alerted to an investigation involving a Galesburg Police Officer Thursday by several sources. When contacted then, police and city officials said any reporters who wanted more information would have to file a Freedom of Information Act request. WGIL did, and while the city's statement Friday answers some questions, others brought up in our filing have not yet been answered, including the details surrounding the investigation.

WGIL's FOI request was denied as of just before the close of business Friday.
