Knox County, AFSCME Reach Accord on Contract
What was only several months of negotiations turned into a good outcome for both Knox County and a union representing most of its employees.

The Knox County Board recently approved a new contract with Local 3217 of the American Federal of State, County, and Municipal Employees, that covers many Courthouse employees.

District-Five Democrat and Negotiations Committee Chair Jeff Jefferson says the four-year contract involves pay raises of three percent the first year, four-percent the second year, and two-point-five percent the last two years.

Jefferson tells WGIL just because negotiations didn't last a long time didn't mean there weren't hang-ups.

"It looks like it worked out well for both parties," Jefferson said. "I think both parties came away with a little give and take. I'm sure they're pleased with it, and we're happy."

Jefferson says he's happy that mediation didn't need to be used.

While Knox County Courthouse employees have their contract, other employees in the area represented by AFSCME still aren't with their contracts. Local 1173 is still in negotiations with the City of Galesburg. A mediator is being used there.
