Plane Strikes Deer on Departure in IL
WHEELING, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities in suburban Chicago say a small airplane apparently struck a deer while taking off from an airport, forcing it to make an emergency landing.

Officials say there were no injuries to the six people aboard when the twin-engine Piper Seneca aircraft landed with damaged landing gear Sunday at the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory says the agency's still investigating. And she says authorities are trying to confirm where the plane took off.

Some initial reports said it departed from Campbell Airport in Grayslake.

Wheeling Fire Battalion Chief Dave Palmeri says the aircraft didn't have its landing gear on its left side and the pilot reported landing gear problems after striking a deer.
