U.S.: Alleged Bomber Wanted to Hit Responders, Too
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The federal government claims in court papers that the man who allegedly tried to blow up Springfield's federal building wanted a second bomb that would target emergency responders.

A motion filed in federal court in East St. Louis this week indicates federal prosecutors have audio and video recordings of Michael C. Finton's intentions in the September 2009 attempted attack.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that prosecutors are trying to prevent Finton from using an entrapment defense.

The government claims the 30-year-old part-time Decatur fry cook was working with a federal informant -- not a terrorist group -- when he drove a van filled with fake explosives to the Paul Findley Federal Building and tried to detonate it with a cell phone.

A judge has delayed Finton's trial until August.
