Abingdon School District Hopes for Good P.R. Out of Consolidation Talks
The Abingdon School Board is hopefully getting its say in some literature that will soon be distributed in regards to the possible consolidation of the Abingdon, Avon, and Bushnell-Prairie City School Districts.

The District-217 board recently, as a result of the consolidation Committee of Ten's request, discussed some items this week that might be included in a brochure of both pluses and minuses about the consolidation.

The question specifically for voters to learn about before a possible ballot question next year, what does a "yes" vote mean, and what does a "no" vote mean. Board members Sherry Lomax and Jim Bloomberg say there are several positives if the consolidation occurs.

"Expanded curriculums," Lomax said.

"More extra-curricular activities," Bloomberg said.

"If you want to look at community advantages, the way I see it, our parents are going to be going to games and extra-curriculars in Bushnell," Lomax said.

And Lomax says that would mean extra money for businesses there -- especially restaurants -- when students and families have dinner there before and after games. She says there would also be a similar benefit for Abingdon, too, because middle school activities could happen there.

The Committee of Ten meets next at the Abingdon High School auditorium March 24th at 7pm, where a number of final reports from sub-committees are expected to be presented.
