Hundreds Leave U of I Through Incentives
URBANA, Ill. (AP) -- Hundreds of employees have left the University of Illinois under incentive programs, and the reduction will save about $19 million a year.

That's according to Mike Andrechak, who is the university's associate provost for budgets and resource planning.

The voluntary faculty and staff reduction programs went into effect in 2010.
The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that some 483 employees have left through incentives, and the last group, 70 professors, will leave by Aug. 15.

A spokeswoman for the Urbana campus says 81 of the 483 who took buyouts have come back on a part-time basis. When they return, they often are paid less and don't earn vacation or sick leave.
