Amtrak Ridership Up with Busiest Ever February
CHICAGO (AP) -- The Amtrak passenger rail service reports its ridership is up for the 16th consecutive month, with lines out of Chicago also reporting sharp increases.

Amtrak says more than with 2 million people got on the service's trains last month. That's the busiest February for Amtrak on record.

The Chicago-Port Huron line saw an increase in ridership of more than 26 percent. The Chicago-Carbondale corridor was up by 16 percent and the Chicago-St. Louis line saw an eight percent rise.

Amtrak's president and CEO Joe Boardman says he expects train travel to increase even further with higher and higher gasoline prices.

Overall in 2010, nearly 29 million passengers traveled on Amtrak. The service has more than 300 daily trains linking 46 states.
