Some Human Service Budget Cuts Restored
(IRN)-People who depend on the state to pay for programs and services for the disabled have a bit of good news. The Department of Human Services has whittled its budget cuts to $57 million, from the earlier expected figure of more than $200 million, effective April 1.

Don Moss, a longtime advocate for the disabled and their service providers, says he is glad the administration found unspent money elsewhere, though a new fiscal year begins July 1, and he is still concerned about the near future.

From DHS:
Below is the general breakdown of the $57.1 million in reductions for the DHS FY11 budget.

-Mental Health - $4.9 million
-Developmental Disabilities - $5 million
-Human Capital Development - $28.5 million
-Alcohol and Substance Abuse - $7.2 million
-Rehabilitation Services - $6.5 million
-Community Health and Prevention - $5 million
