With O'Hare Expansion Deal, Airlines Drop Lawsuit
CHICAGO (AP) -- United and American airlines say they will drop their lawsuit against the city of Chicago now that the airlines and the city have reached a deal on expansion at O'Hare International Airport.

The two carriers accused Chicago of violating a lease agreement giving airlines authority to approve construction expenditures. Mayor Richard Daley has in turn criticized United and American for allegedly reneging on their promise in 2001 to help see through the overhaul of O'Hare.

But on Monday, Daley appeared with airline executives to announce a nearly $1.2 billion deal to continue part of the overhaul. Spokesmen for United and American confirmed Monday afternoon that the companies will drop the lawsuit.
