Hearing Set in IL Military Secrets Case
CHICAGO (AP) -- A suburban Chicago man charged with transporting restricted military data to China is set to appear for a detention hearing.

Sixing Liu, who's also known as Steve Liu, lives in Deerfield. He faces one count of exporting defense-related technical data without a license.

A federal judge in Chicago has set a detention hearing for Tuesday.

Federal prosecutors say Liu was part of a research and development team that worked on navigation devices for the Department of Defense. He's accused of taking a laptop containing hundreds of documents relating to the projects to China in November and making a presentation at a technology conference there.

His attorney, James Tunick, says prosecutors are wrong, and he tells the Chicago Sun-Times that Liu is ``as American as a summer baseball game.''
