Schock Proposes Farm Legislation
(IRN) -- An Illinois Congressman wants to make it safer for farmers to work at night, and in turn, make it safer for drivers to be out among them.

H.R. 843, filed by U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Peoria), would direct the transportation secretary to create a nationwide standard for lighting farm equipment such as tractors, combines and some large trucks.

"We know that we're not just farming at daylight, but often times we're coming off the field at dusk and we may not make it back to the main farm site or home site until after dark," says Schock. "So lighting is extremely important, both for the farmers' safety and for the folks on the roadway."

Schock has no specific standards in mind, saying he'll leave that up to the transportation secretary's discretion.
