FAA Probes Small Plane's Emergency Landing in IL
CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) -- The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the emergency landing in southern Illinois of a small airplane piloted by a Missouri man.

Illinois State Police say 28-year-old Matthew Hillis of Poplar Bluff, Mo., was the 2004 Lancair's only occupant and escaped injury during the landing about noon Friday in a field near Carbondale.

Hillis tells the Daily Dunklin Democrat of Kennett, Mo., that he was returning home from a business trip to Indianapolis when the engine of the airplane began losing oil pressure.

Hillis says he was directed to land at the Carbondale-area airport when the plane's engine locked up about 20 miles away, so he landed in a pasture on Southern Illinois University's farm.

The plane is owned by Larry Hillis Dodge, where Hillis is general manager.
