Archiving Options for Knox County Documents
Archiving documents at the Knox County Courthouse will have to take place in order to free up much needed storage space.

The County Board Finance Committee took a step in that direction Tuesday night by approving a measure to purchase six scanning machines from Office Machine Consultants.

County Treasurer Robin Davis says the option would be helpful to a number of departments.

"It gives us the opportunity to actually start scanning documents and archiving them on our computer system," Davis said. "That's going to be better for finding a lot of old information -- board resolutions or payroll information, or anything. Right now, we really have no way of archiving."

The cost of the machines and the software is around $75,000 which will come from bonds the county has sold for renovations to the courthouse.

Davis says that is proper use of the funds because it alleviates storage problems.

The machines would not allow the county to dispose of documents, but store them offsite and quickly pull up needed digital versions with the software included in the package.
