Quinn Drops Job for Ex-Lawmaker Who Backed Tax
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Governor Pat Quinn has halted efforts to give a state job to a former lawmaker who helped pass Illinois' new income tax increase.

Shortly after Rep. Careen Gordon voted for the increase, Quinn nominated her to serve on the state's Prisoner Review Board. The raised questions about whether the job was a reward for helping Quinn -- something that both denied.

Quinn's office said Wednesday that Gordon asked for her nomination to be withdrawn.
A Quinn spokeswoman said she didn't know why Gordon made the request or whether the governor would try to find another job for the Morris Democrat.

Gordon's nomination was to be considered Thursday by the state Senate, which
looked likely to reject her.
