Warren Achievement Center Hopes for Luck with Public Support
The financial situation isn't getting much better for the Monmouth-based Warren Achievement Center, and they're hoping the public steps up and takes notice.

Center CEO Michael Lewis says the organization that helps people with disabilities in Knox, Warren, Henderson, and Mercer Counties, and the last couple years the agency has seen significant funding cuts, starting when Rod Blagojevich was governor up to now, thanks to what has grown to be a $15-billion budget deficit or more.

Lewis tells WGIL that has so far meant a pretty big hit to his organization.

"Last year, Warren Achievement Center lost one million dollars in grants from our programs that had to make dramatic cuts, we've gone from 150 employees down to 112 employees."

And Lewis says that doesn't just affect the people who've lost their jobs, it also affects those who rely on the group's services.

Warren Achievement has had a number of recent fundraisers, and another is scheduled for Saturday evening. They're hosting a Saint Patrick's themed dance starting at 6:30 at the Monmouth V-F-W.
