Yates City Man Gets Prison for Sexual Assault
A Knox County man will be going to prison after pleading guilty for the second time to an alleged sexual assault last year.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate 21-year old Jason Oppe pleaded guilty yesterday at what was to be a bench trial on a felony charge of Criminal Sexual Assault, and a misdemeanor charge of Criminal Sexual Abuse.

Oppe was arrested year, reportedly in Morton while on his way to a polygraph test,
for the alleged sexual act with a female under the age of 18.

Investigators believe DNA tested following the suspected assault matched Oppe.
Oppe was allowed to withdraw his guilty plea earlier this year by a Knox County Judge, after Public Defender Karl Johnson argued his client misunderstood during an earlier hearing that he could get probation for the offense, but it was re-filed yesterday.

As part of the plea, Oppe was also given three-years of mandatory supervised release, and must also pay court costs.

The state's Truth in Sentencing Law requires Oppe serve at least 85 percent of his sentence -- or, more than three years, before he can be considered for release.
