Churches Pray on Health Care Reform Anniversary
(IRN) -- Religious leaders are celebrating the one year anniversary of the passage of the federal health care reform law, but say there are many at risk until those reforms are implemented.

This weekend, more than 400 congregations of all faiths statewide will pause during worship services and pray for those who are suffering from the health care crisis. They will also pray for the implementation of recent federal healthcare reform in Illinois. It's an effort by the Campaign for Better Health Care called "2011 Sound the Alarm."

"We all recognize that health and health care is also a social issue and an economic issue and a political issue and we recognize that all of those are important, but for us more than anything else, this is really a moral and religious issue," said Rev. Larry Greenfield, executive minister of the American Baptist Churches of Metro Chicago.

Until reforms are implemented, the Campaign for Better Health Care says 1.8 million uninsured Illinoisans are at risk.
