State Rep. Recognized for Death Penalty Repeal
One of the people responsible for the repeal of capital punishment in Illinois is used to taking on major, controversial issues. State Rep. Karen Yarbrough (D-Maywood) was also the sponsor of Smoke Free Illinois, which passed in 2007.

"I didn’t come to Springfield to go to events in the evening and enjoy shrimp cocktails," says Yarbrough. "I came to Springfield to represent my district and represent the people of the state of Illinois."

"Karen is a unique individual," says State Rep. JoAnn Osmond (R-Antioch). “She's here for good public policy; she's here to represent her constituents, and she cares about what she is doing." Osmond says she has no problem singing the praises of a member of the opposing party: "That’s the biggest thing you can do here: work on both sides for the good of the people."

Yarbrough is in her eleventh year as a state representative.
