Monmouth College Expansion is Greek to Students
A way Monmouth College is looking to improve and expand Greek life on campus has officially been unveiled.

The college's Alpha Xi Delta Sorority recently moved into a brand new house near Broadway and 7th Streets in Monmouth -- the first house for a sorority on campus outside of founding homes according to spokesman Jeff Rankin, despite Monmouth College being the birthplace of the sorority.

Rankin tells WGIL it just wasn't a big deal for the sororities until recently.

"Talking to graduates as recently as ten years ago, the women said they really weren't interested in pursuing their own house for whatever reason. Although the recent women have been very vocal about it and as a result, you can see that we got this beautiful house."

It was three-years ago that the sorority first learned they'd be getting paid for with two-million dollars in seed money from Monmouth College. Rankin says it's on land the former Zeta Beta Tau fraternity house once sat on, and they're being tasked with raising the two-million.

Roseville native Kim Dwyer is Alpha Xi Delta Chapter president, and tells WGIL she and her sisters are thrilled they have their own place to live.

"It's really exciting to finally show off to all our friends, family, and community, our home," Dwyer said. "We really are proud to be able to show it off in its finished state."

The house, designed by Galesburg-based Metzger-Johnson, is fully handicapped-accessible, has enough bedrooms for 19 students, a formal living room, and full kitchen and laundry facilities.
