GREDA's Role on Business Commission Cut by City Council
Fifth Ward Alderman Karen Lafferty has made it no secret she opposes the idea of all but eliminating GREDA's, Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association, role in the city's Business District Development and Redevelopment Commission.

Lafferty was the only alderman to vote against the proposal Monday night which cuts the commission's 15 members down to 9, with only one GREDA representative.

During discussion of the matter, Lafferty wanted assurance from Economic Development Director Cesar Suarez the public would have all the information they possibly could about Logistics Park Galesburg.

Lafferty-"Will the council receive reports on how many people become interested in the park, who they are, and how many there are?"
Suarez-"Well when we do any kind of reporting of activity the council and the whole entire public on the website will see how many calls were made, the nature of the calls, the kind of profits and what stage they are in, I can show you examples of how that would like like, but basically it's a list of industries that have been contacted not by name but by type."

Mayor Sal Garza had proposed the restructuring saying the commission's make-up will more accurately reflect the city's $4 million investment to Logistics Park Galesaburg and allow for more input from the public at large.
