City Grants $100,000 to Orpheum Theatre
Galesburg City Council members have approved $100,000 in funding for the Orpheum Theatre.

The council had previously approved the funds based on whether the Orphuem was able to secure a Save America's Treasurer's Grant from the federal government, but was unsuccessful.

Now the council is willing to provide the monies anyway from Tax Increment Financing funds, in order to help the Orphuem replace the heating and cooling system.

Theatre Director Kate Francis tells WGIL, they will need all the help they can get.

"Obviously this contribution is extremely important to the Orpheum Theatre, it represents about eleven percent of the total project. So I would say the outcome of this meeting basically means that we have a lot more work to do in order to continue to be able to be accountable to the city of Galesburg's confidence in our organization to get this project done."

Cost to replace the systems will be about $906,000 dollars. With the funds from the city, it brings the Orpheum's total pledged funds to $380,000.
