Bloomington Trucking Company Closes Shop
(AP) --Bloomington-based Brandt Truck Line has closed down after 88 years in business.

According to The Pantagraph in Bloomington, the company announced it is ceasing operations immediately in a Tuesday posting on its website. The company said it will do its best to deliver any freight that is still in its possession.

A reason for the shutdown was not given. Owner John Brandt did not return telephone messages for comment, and company president Steve Kubsch referred all inquiries to the owner.

Founded in 1923, the company moved kerosene for heating and lamp oil by a team of mules between Atlanta and Waynesville. It has specialized in the less-than-truckload freight-hauling market since the 1980s.

Nicolet Souza of Bloomington tells the Pantagraph the company employed 17 people in Bloomington, with others based elsewhere.
