Building Committee Supports Construction Manager Recommendation
The Galesburg School Board's Building Committee has given its blessing to a recommendation recently made by the committee overseeing the district's new Master Facilities Plan.

The Building Committee Wednesday voted to affirm the rankings of Quad Cities-based Russell Construction as the Master Facilities Committee's number one recommendation for Construction Manager on the first $30 million worth of work to be done in the district, followed by Gilbane Construction as number two.

The Master Facilities Committee members in attendance were asked why they picked Russell over Gilbane. For member Bob Fulton, the reason was simple.

"Basically, ability-wise, they both have the ability to handle it. We felt Russell related better to the six of us who went out there. We felt we had more attention on the part of their entire organization into what we were looking for."

The Building Committee also approved using the district's architect, Metzger-Johnson, as the architect representative on the project. District Assistant Superintendent Guy Cahill says the firm would act as "an owners representative and a liason."

The Galesburg School Board holds a special meeting Tuesday to discuss the Construction Manager, Architect, and the interest rates on the bonds that will be issued to bankroll the project.
