Students Helping Flood Prevention Efforts
(IRN)-Over 100 junior high and high school students in Western Illinois are spending the day filling sand bags.

The students are from the Rockridge School District, and they're helping fill sand bags that will be used to help hold back the Mississippi River in Andalusia.

"Since Rockridge is going to be affected by the flood, not only our school district but people in our community, we were asked if we could send some students down to help work with the sandbagging efforts, and we decided that was a great idea, so we are sending down a number of students to go down and help fill some bags and do our part to help volunteer with the efforts to save our community down in Andalusia," says Mike Ruff, principal of Rockridge Junior High.

The sandbagging detail is set up at Andalusia Elementary School.

About 145 students are helping. They're all at least 14 years of age and have permission from their parents to help.
