States Crack Down on 'Repo Joe' Car Sales Ads
CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois has joined nine other states in a settlement with a Georgia advertising firm over allegations of misleading car sales promotions around the nation.

Illinois will receive $13,000 of the $150,000 settlement from Atlanta based Action Integrated Marketing.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan says the company's ads misled consumers because the ads claimed sales events included repossessed or governmental surplus vehicles. The cars actually came from a dealership's existing inventory.

One of the tactics involved so-called ``Repo Joe'' sales, where the company claimed consumers would be able to buy repossessed vehicles at discount.

The nine other states in the settlement are Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Washington.

Ad company owner Jay Murphree tells The Associated Press all advertising has been revised. He denies any wrongdoing.
