State Police to Review Case Involving Daley Nephew
(AP) -- Illinois State Police have agreed to investigate the 2004 death of a man who died after being struck by a nephew of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

Master Sgt. Isaiah Vega says state police agreed to take the investigation at the request of Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez.

The Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune report that Alvarez has asked for an independent review into the death of 21-year-old David Koschman and the handling of the case by Chicago police.

Koschman was reportedly arguing with Daley's nephew, Richard Vanecko, outside a bar when Vanecko hit him once in the face. Koschman died more than 10 days later.

Chicago police closed the case after deciding that Vanecko acted in self-defense. Witnesses say detectives wrongly portrayed Koshman as the aggressor.
